“Taking the Long Way Home” is the poetic name of an evening of music composed and performed by two very accomplished Singaporean musicians. A part of the Singapore arts festival in New York, Something To Write Home About, the music showcase features experimental singer-songwriter & producer-arranger Eli Tyler and finger-style guitarist & vocalist Shun Ng. Expect the musicians to range freely across the musical landscape from Indie to R&B, from Blues to Pop, from Funk to Soul Jazz. The concert takes place on Wednesday, September 16, 7:30 – 9:30 pm, at the iconic downtown venue of La Mama Theater. Tickets ($12) are available on-line.

SP caught up with Eli Tyler in East Harlem and asked him a few questions.

SP. How would you describe your music? In three words.

ET. Industrial cosmic wasteland.

SP. Musicians have nationalities but does music?

ET. Oh absolutely! My music is from The United Sounds of Awesome.

SP. What alcoholic beverage is your music best compared to? Why?

ET. Definitely a Dark ‘N Stormy. This pirate concoction is the national drink of the elusive Bermuda. It has a rich broody depth and is not for faint of heart. The name itself just says it all.
