2nd Singapore Poetry Contest Results

We are very pleased to announce the results of the 2nd Singapore Poetry Contest. Open to everyone who is NOT a Singaporean citizen or permanent resident in Singapore, the annual contest sought poems that use the word “Singapore” in a creative and significant way.

We received a total of 80 entries from around the world. The USA leads with 46 entries (Arizona, Arkansas, California, DC, Kansas, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Mexico, New York City, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington, and Wyoming), India follows with 10 entries, then Philippines 8, Australia 3, Canada 3, Malaysia 3, Taiwan 3, Bulgaria 1, Croatia-Bosnia 1, Germany 1, and Greece 1.

Third prize (USD 20) goes to “I’m Supposed to Teach” by Sara Backer (Massachusetts, USA).

Second prize (USD50) goes to “Metamorphosis” by Ankita Anand (New Delhi, India).

First prize (USD100) goes to “President’s Day” by Josh Lefkowitz (Brooklyn, USA).

Congratulations to the winners! The poems will be published in the coming weeks, one each Friday, to start the weekend on a high note. The Singapore Poetry Contest will return in April 2017, so start scribbling down those never-before-expressed thoughts about, or not about, Singapore.
